You’ve already heard about who is featured on Saturday, August 27, 2011- Steve Earle and the Dukes (and Duchesses) also featuring Allison Moorer. Steve Earle is a 14-time Grammy nominated and 3-time Grammy winner. Steve Earle’s celebrated original “This City” garnered both Emmy and Grammy Award nominations as it was written for HBO’s Original Series Treme (in which Earle appears as a cast member). “This City” also closes Earle’s T Bone Burnett-produced new album. He is a celebrated song-writer and performer (Copperhead Road, Guitar Town, Galway Girls).
Here is what you haven’t heard….
Summerfest opens on Thursday, August 25, 2011 with Canadian Hip Hop artist Shadrach Kabango, better known as Shad. Closing the mainstage is East-Coast hip-hop icon Classified, (Is Anybody Listening, Oh Canada).
Friday, August 26, 2011 is a triple header with Canada’s own The Sheepdogs, Serena Ryder, and The Sadies. The Sheepdogs are 1 of 2 finalists for the much-coveted spot on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Visit their website and cast a vote to put these Canadian boys on the cover of the Rolling Stone.
Sunday night opens with the power of the full-orchestra sound of LIGHTHOUSE (One Fine Morning, Sunny Days, Pretty Lady, Take it Slow). The evening then brings one of Canada’s favourite classic rock bands back to Sudbury- April Wine. The very first Summerfest was in 1998. The very first band booked on the amphitheater stage at Summerfest ‘98 was April Wine. They were the only mainstage show that year. After 2004, Summerfest stopped using the amphitheater stage because of its deterioration.
With the new amphitheater completed at Bell Park, Summerfest organizers thought that this was the best way to celebrate the return to the amphitheater by bringing back the first act ever to perform on the amphitheater at Summerfest.
